Theatre: Michael Redgrave directed Uta Hagen off-Broadway 1956

[edit]

Two big names, plus co-starred Luther Adler; might be worth adding to the stage productions section. Phoenix Theatre. I'll give the links and let those interested in that section take charge from here: Books, Web, News. Softlavender (talk) 08:09, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2014 film in development, possibly with Ralph Fiennes

[edit]

I don't know at what stage we can add this to Wiki: [1]. I checked IMDB Pro, and it's the Turgenev piece; it also says that "Ralph Fiennes is eyeing the project", or at least that's the pitch. Softlavender (talk) 08:27, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I read (or heard) somewhere that Turgenev never meant for this to be performed

[edit]

I read somewhere that Turgenev never meant for this to be performed, but only read. I can't put my finger on where I read that, at the moment. However I think it's worth noting if we find it. Because, for instance, to me the piece succeeds much better as a read than as a performance. Somehow acting it out destroys the clever breezy wordplay and comedy of manners, and it becomes clunky and prosaic. Softlavender (talk) 10:03, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Need help from someone with subscription to archive of a UK newspaper

[edit]

If someone has a subscription to the archives of one of the UK newspapers, could you look up the exact air date of the 1967 AMITC teleplay with Susannah York, Ian McShane, and Michael Wells? It would be in the TV listings; it might just be listed as the title (A Month in the Country), with no cast listed. I've heard from Brits that this did indeed air on UK television in the late 1960s (and was McShane's big break I think), but I'll need an exact air date in order to update IMDB (which now erroneously lists it as a 1978 telefilm). I think the best way to find it in a digital newspaper archive is to simply search under "month in the country" from 1965–1970. If that doesn't yield anything, search under "turgenev", or "Susannah York", or another of the three leads. Thanks if you can find anything! Softlavender (talk) 03:31, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
